Gastronomic itenerary Exhibitions Guided visits Procession and XV century fair-Conference Competitions Commemorations of the death of Infante D.Henrique

Between 15th October and 15th November 2004, LAGOS, will be the stage for the Discoveries Festival, the most important cultural event in the town, which is focused this year on the 500 years of the Lagos Town Charter of 1504.

With the aim of recreating life in Portuguese society in the XV and XVI centuries a period notable for the sea voyages of the Poruguese Discoveries, in which Lagos had a role which has been scientifically proven and recognized. The Festival highlights, in each event an episode marking the historical past of Lagos. It is in this context that the 500 years of the granting of celebrated, of the Town Charter by D.Manuel I to the then medieval town is celebrated, and this theme will be seen in the procession and events in the XV century fair.

The widening of the area of the Fair to other streets of the Historical Center of Lagos, the accomplishment of two historical parades - one dedicated to "Gil Eanes and the Bojador Handle" and the other dedicated to "D. Manuel I and the 500 Years of the Charter from 1504" - are some of the innovations that the visitors will be able to experience in this edition.

At the invitation of Lagos Town Hall restaurants will have a XV century menu during this time. The visitor will be able to know about and taste XV and XVI century delicacies in the set of dishes typical of the Discoveries time made in the"4 Departures"style or, from the four corners of the world.
